Kathiawar Peninsula is an example of
- a.Emerged shoreline
- b.Submerged shoreline
- c.Ria shoreline
- d.Dalmatian shoreline
Answer: (B) Submerged shoreline
The northern part of India's west coast, including Kathiawar and Kachchh, is described as a submerged coast, formed where faulting caused the land to sink relative to the sea; the remains of ancient Dwarka found under the sea off Kathiawar are often cited as evidence. Emerged shoreline is the tempting option, but in India that label is used for the Kerala (Malabar) coast in the south and for the east coast. A ria shoreline is a special kind of submerged coast with drowned river valleys, as in north-west Spain. A Dalmatian shoreline, named after the Adriatic coast of Croatia, forms where ridges parallel to the coast are drowned, leaving long islands.
