Geography (incl. West Bengal)West Bengal Geography
In West Bengal, according to Census of India, 2011, the highest number of census towns (CTs) are found in the district of
- a.North 24 Parganas
- b.Howrah
- c.Hooghly
- d.Barddhaman
Answer: (A) North 24 Parganas
North 24 Parganas, along the industrial belt of Barrackpore and the suburbs north of Kolkata, is one of the most urbanised districts of West Bengal and has the largest number of municipalities of any district. West Bengal as a whole had 780 census towns in 2011, more than any other state. Hooghly and Barddhaman also have dense clusters of census towns along the Hooghly river and the Asansol–Durgapur belt. Note: Census 2011 lists 135 census towns in Howrah against 78 in North 24 Parganas, 85 in Barddhaman and 65 in Hooghly, so (B) is factually correct.
