Which of the following States got the maximum benefits of the Green Revolution?
- a.Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
- b.Rajasthan and Haryana
- c.Punjab and Rajasthan
- d.Punjab and Haryana
Answer: (D) Punjab and Haryana
The Green Revolution of the mid-1960s, based on high-yielding varieties of wheat, assured irrigation, fertilisers and minimum support prices, brought the greatest gains to Punjab and Haryana, along with western Uttar Pradesh. It was promoted in India by M. S. Swaminathan, building on Norman Borlaug's dwarf wheat varieties. Eastern states such as Bihar gained far less because of poor irrigation and small holdings. Rajasthan, largely arid, also benefited little.
