Geography (incl. West Bengal)Minerals, Energy & Industry
In India, the largest region hydro-electric potential is
  1. a.the Himalayas
  2. b.the Western Ghats
  3. c.the Eastern Ghats
  4. d.the Satpura Range

Answer: (A) the Himalayas

The Himalayan rivers, perennial because of snow-melt and falling steeply through deep gorges, give the Himalayan region the largest hydro-electric potential in India; the Brahmaputra basin alone has the largest share, and Arunachal Pradesh has the highest potential of any state. The Western Ghats have important projects such as Koyna, but their rivers are smaller and seasonal. The Eastern Ghats and the Satpura range have much less potential. Bhakra, Tehri and Nathpa Jhakri are major Himalayan projects.
