Which of the following regions does have the highest population density as per 2011 Census?
- a.The Punjab Plain
- b.The Upper Ganga Plain
- c.The Ganga Delta
- d.The Brahmaputra Delta
Answer: (C) The Ganga Delta
The Ganga delta of West Bengal, with its fertile alluvium, intensive rice farming and the Kolkata conurbation, is the most densely populated of these regions; West Bengal's density in 2011 was about 1,028 per sq km, second only to Bihar's. The Upper Ganga plain and the Punjab plain are also densely settled, but less so. The Brahmaputra's delta, which it shares with the Ganga, lies mostly in Bangladesh. Within India, the Brahmaputra valley of Assam is less densely populated than the Ganga delta.
