The Delhi Sultanate began in 1206 when Qutbuddin Aibak became independent ruler after the death of Muhammad Ghori, founding the Slave (Mamluk) dynasty. Aibak ruled from Lahore and died in 1210 after a fall while playing chaugan (polo). His successor Iltutmish made Delhi the capital. The other years do not mark the founding.
