In the Second Battle of Panipat on 5 November 1556, Akbar's forces under Bairam Khan defeated Hemu, the general of the Sur ruler Adil Shah, securing Mughal rule. The First Battle of Panipat (1526) was Babur's victory over Ibrahim Lodi. The Third (1761) was Ahmad Shah Abdali's victory over the Marathas. At Haldighati (1576) Akbar's army under Man Singh fought Maharana Pratap of Mewar.
