The maximum height of Troposphere from the Earth's surface is
  1. a.10 Km
  2. b.12 Km
  3. c.14.5 Km
  4. d.16.8 Km

Answer: (A) 10 Km

The troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere, and its top, the tropopause, is commonly taken as about 10 km above the surface in middle latitudes. Its height varies with latitude and season, falling to about 8 km over the poles. Note: the troposphere is deepest over the equator, reaching about 16–18 km, so for its 'maximum' height (D) 16.8 km is the closer figure.
