When the power of eye lens increases, the defect of vision is produced. The defect is known as
  1. a.shortsightedness
  2. b.longsightedness
  3. c.colour blindness
  4. d.astigmatism

Answer: (A) shortsightedness

If the eye lens becomes too strongly converging (higher power), distant objects are focused in front of the retina, which is myopia or shortsightedness. Longsightedness is caused by too little converging power, astigmatism by an unevenly curved cornea, and colour blindness by defective cone cells.
