The Intellectual Property Appellate Board was set up in 2003 under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which administers patents, trademarks and copyright through DPIIT. The other ministries do not handle intellectual property. The Board was abolished by the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021 and its work moved to the High Courts.
