ArithmeticGeometry & Mensuration
In the adjoining figure, if ∠ACB = ∠BAD, AC = 8cm, AB = 16cm and AD = 3cm, then BD = ?
- a.3 cm
- b.6 cm
- c.2 cm
- d.None of the above
Answer: (B) 6 cm
With D on BC, triangles BAD and BCA share angle B and have ∠BAD = ∠BCA, so they are similar. Hence $\frac{BD}{BA} = \frac{AD}{CA} = \frac{3}{8}$, giving BD = 16 × $\frac{3}{8}$ = 6 cm. 3 cm just repeats AD.
