ArithmeticPercentage, Profit & Loss
A grocer purchased 2kg of rice at the rate of ₹ 15 per kg. and 3kg. of rice at the rate of ₹ 13 per kg. At what price per kg. should he sell the mixture to earn $33\frac{1}{3}$% profit on the cost price?
- a.₹ 28
- b.₹ 20
- c.₹ 18·40
- d.₹ 17·40
Answer: (C) ₹ 18·40
Total cost = 2 × 15 + 3 × 13 = ₹ 69 for 5 kg, i.e. ₹ 13·80 per kg. Adding $\frac{1}{3}$ of it as profit gives 13·80 × $\frac{4}{3}$ = ₹ 18·40 per kg. ₹ 17·40 would be a profit of only about 26%.
