Q108
ArithmeticRatio, Proportion & Mixtures
Two vessels contain mixture of milk and water in the ratio 5 : 2 and 3 : 1 respectively. Find the ratio of milk and water in the new solution, if two mixtures are mixed in equal amount.
  1. a.5 : 2
  2. b.3 : 1
  3. c.8 : 3
  4. d.41 : 15

Answer: (D) 41 : 15

Taking one unit of each, milk = $\frac{5}{7} + \frac{3}{4} = \frac{41}{28}$ and water = $\frac{2}{7} + \frac{1}{4} = \frac{15}{28}$. So the new ratio is 41 : 15. 8 : 3 wrongly adds the ratio terms directly.
