Q37
Indian National MovementEarly Uprisings & Revolt of 1857
During the uprising of 1857, which part of India was largely unaffected?
  1. a.Bengal
  2. b.Punjab
  3. c.Awadh
  4. d.All of the above

Answer: (B) Punjab

Punjab remained comparatively unaffected by the 1857 uprising, partly because Sikh soldiers had little sympathy for the Mughal dynasty, and partly because the British had recruited many Punjabis who had recently been defeated in the Anglo-Sikh Wars. Bengal and Awadh saw significant rebel activity, particularly in Chittagong and Lucknow respectively.
