Answer: (A) Rs. 1,000

Interest for 10 − 4 = 6 years = Rs. 1,600 − 1,240 = Rs. 360. Interest for 1 year = Rs. 60. Interest for 4 years = Rs. 240. Principal = Rs. 1,240 − Rs. 240 = Rs. 1,000.
