The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949 (observed as Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas since 2015); it came fully into force on 26 January 1950, the date chosen to mark the Purna Swaraj Day of 1930. A few provisions, such as those on citizenship, elections and the provisional Parliament, came into force on 26 November 1949 itself. The Assembly took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days.
