Which book depicts the plight of Indigo cultivators?
  1. a.Dinabandhu
  2. b.Neel Darpan
  3. c.Neel Darshan
  4. d.Anandamath

Answer: (B) Neel Darpan

'Neel Darpan' (1860), a Bengali play by Dinabandhu Mitra, exposed the oppression of indigo cultivators by European planters; its English translation is attributed to Michael Madhusudan Dutt and was published by Rev. James Long, who was fined and jailed for it. Background: the Indigo Revolt of 1859-60 in Nadia (Digambar and Bishnu Biswas) and the Indigo Commission of 1860. 'Dinabandhu' is the author's name, not a book, and 'Anandamath' (Bankim Chandra, 1882) deals with the Sannyasi rebellion and contains 'Vande Mataram'.
