Who denounced the Congress as 'microscopic minority'?
  1. a.Sir Syed Ahmed Khan
  2. b.Lord Dufferin
  3. c.Lord Curzon
  4. d.Theodore Beck

Answer: (B) Lord Dufferin

Lord Dufferin, Viceroy (1884-88) when the Congress was born, described it in 1888 as representing only a 'microscopic minority' of the people. Compare Lord Curzon's remark in 1900 that the Congress was 'tottering to its fall'. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Theodore Beck (Principal of the MAO College, Aligarh) also opposed the Congress, but this particular phrase belongs to Dufferin.
