Geography (incl. West Bengal)Physiography: Mountains, Plateaus, Plains & Islands
The highest peak of the Eastern Ghats is
  1. a.Mahendragiri
  2. b.Nilgiri
  3. c.Jindhagada
  4. d.Anaimudi

Answer: (C) Jindhagada

PSC's final key accepts Jindhagada Peak (about 1,690 m) in the Araku region of Andhra Pradesh as the highest point of the Eastern Ghats, slightly higher than nearby Arma Konda/Sitamma Konda (1,680 m) and Deomali in Odisha (1,672 m). Many older textbooks name Mahendragiri (1,501 m, Odisha), so know both, but follow the PSC answer. 'Nilgiri' refers to the Nilgiri Hills, where the Eastern and Western Ghats meet (highest peak Doddabetta, 2,637 m), and Anaimudi (2,695 m, Kerala) is the highest peak of the Western Ghats and of peninsular India.
