C.R. Das (Chittaranjan Das), known as 'Deshbandhu', enunciated that Swaraj must be for the masses and not just the classes. He co-founded the Swaraj Party in 1923 with Motilal Nehru to contest elections from within the legislature. He was one of the most prominent Congress leaders of Bengal.
