The word "biodiversity" was coined by Walter G. Rosen in 1985 while planning the National Forum on BioDiversity held in Washington in 1986; it was popularised by E. O. Wilson, who is often called the "father of biodiversity". A. G. Tansley coined the term "ecosystem" (1935), Eugene Odum is regarded as the father of modern ecology, and Ernst Mayr gave the biological species concept. Also remember: Ernst Haeckel coined "ecology", Norman Myers gave the idea of biodiversity hotspots, India has four hotspots, and 22 May is the International Day for Biological Diversity.
