Q36
Indian PolityPreamble, Fundamental Rights, DPSP & Duties
The term 'Political Justice' is mentioned in the Indian Constitution under which of these?
  1. a.Only under the Preamble to the Constitution of India
  2. b.Under both Preamble and Directive Principles
  3. c.Under Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles
  4. d.Under Preamble of the Constitution and Fundamental Rights

Answer: (B) Under both Preamble and Directive Principles

The Preamble secures to all citizens "JUSTICE, social, economic and political", an ideal borrowed from the Russian Revolution (liberty, equality and fraternity come from the French Revolution). PSC's key accepts option 'A' i.e. "only under the Preamble". Be aware, though, that Article 38(1) in the Directive Principles also speaks of "a social order in which justice, social, economic and political, shall inform all the institutions of the national life", which is why several guidebooks prefer "both Preamble and Directive Principles". The Fundamental Rights chapter does not use the phrase. The Preamble has been amended only once, by the 42nd Amendment (1976), which added "Socialist", "Secular" and "Integrity".
