The Gateway of India in Mumbai (completed in 1924 to commemorate the 1911 visit of King George V; architect George Wittet) is a protected monument but is not on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The other three are inscribed: Ellora Caves (1983), Kaziranga National Park (1985) and the Churches and Convents of Goa (1986). Mumbai's World Heritage Sites are the Elephanta Caves, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles. India's 44th site, the Maratha Military Landscapes, was added in 2025. West Bengal has three: Sundarbans National Park (1987), the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (1999, part of the Mountain Railways of India) and Santiniketan (2023).
