Answer: (A) Survey of India
The Survey of India, founded in 1767 and headquartered at Dehradun under the Department of Science and Technology, is the national mapping agency; it prepares the topographical sheets (toposheets) on scales such as 1:50,000 and 1:25,000. It carried out the Great Trigonometrical Survey under Lambton and George Everest, during which the Bengali mathematician Radhanath Sikdar computed the height of Mount Everest. The Geological Survey of India (1851), headquartered in Kolkata, makes geological maps and explores minerals; ISRO supplies satellite imagery; the UGC regulates universities. Also note NATMO, Kolkata, which publishes thematic maps and the National Atlas.
