Golden Quadrilateral is a
- a.National Highway Development Project
- b.National Waterway Development Project
- c.National Railway Development Project
- d.National Airway Development Project
Answer: (A) National Highway Development Project
The Golden Quadrilateral is the roughly 5,846 km network of four- and six-lane national highways linking Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. It formed Phase I of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP), launched under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee around 1999-2001 and executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Phase II was the North-South Corridor (Srinagar to Kanyakumari) and the East-West Corridor (Silchar to Porbandar), which cross at Jhansi. Do not confuse it with the Diamond Quadrilateral (proposed high-speed rail network), National Waterway 1 (Prayagraj to Haldia on the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly), Sagarmala (ports) or UDAN (regional air connectivity).
