Structurally, the Meghalaya plateau is a part of
- a.the Himalayas
- b.the Ganga Plain
- c.the Chhotonagpur Plateau
- d.the Trans Himalaya
Answer: (C) the Chhotonagpur Plateau
The Meghalaya (Shillong) plateau is an extension of the Peninsular Plateau and is structurally part of the Chota Nagpur plateau, separated from it by the Garo–Rajmahal gap (Malda gap), which was later filled with river sediments. The Himalayas are young fold mountains, unlike the ancient block of Meghalaya. The Ganga plain is made of recent alluvium. The Trans Himalaya (Karakoram, Ladakh and Zaskar ranges) lies north of the Great Himalaya.
