Appiko movement associated with nature conservation was led by
- a.Sarala Behn of Ahmedabad
- b.Mira Ben of Rajkot
- c.Pandurang Hegde of Sirsi
- d.Sundarlal Bahuguna of Kasauni
Answer: (C) Pandurang Hegde of Sirsi
The Appiko movement began in September 1983 in the Salkani forest near Sirsi (Uttara Kannada, Karnataka) under Pandurang Hegde; 'appiko' means 'to hug' in Kannada, and it was inspired by the Chipko movement of Uttarakhand (1973; Chandi Prasad Bhatt, Gaura Devi, Sundarlal Bahuguna). Sarala Behn and Mira Behn were Gandhi's disciples who worked in the Kumaon-Garhwal hills, and Bahuguna is linked with Tehri, not with Appiko.
