Al-Biruni, a scholar from Khwarizm who came to India in the train of Mahmud of Ghazni, wrote Kitab-ul-Hind (Tahqiq-i-Hind) in Arabic, describing Indian religion, philosophy, science and social customs. Al-Masudi was an Arab traveller of the 10th century (Muruj-ul-Zahab), Sulaiman was a 9th-century Arab merchant who wrote about the Pala and Pratihara kingdoms, and Firdausi wrote the Persian epic Shahnama at Mahmud's court.
