Akbar announced the Din-i-Ilahi (Tauhid-i-Ilahi) in 1582; it had only a handful of members, and Raja Birbal (Mahesh Das) was the only Hindu among them. Raja Man Singh declined, and Bhagwant Das and Todar Mal did not join. Related facts: Ibadat Khana at Fatehpur Sikri (1575), Mahzar or 'Infallibility Decree' (1579); Birbal died in 1586 fighting the Yusufzai Afghans.
