  1. a.Ramesh Chandra Dutt
  2. b.Dadabhai Naoroji
  3. c.A. O. Hume
  4. d.Amartya Sen

Answer: (B) Dadabhai Naoroji

Dadabhai Naoroji's Poverty and Un-British Rule in India (1901) set out the 'Drain of Wealth' theory - that Britain was draining India's resources through home charges, salaries, pensions and profits without any return - and he was the first to estimate India's per capita income (Rs. 20 a year). R. C. Dutt wrote The Economic History of India (2 volumes, 1902-04), A. O. Hume was a founder of the Congress and an ornithologist, and Amartya Sen (Nobel 1998) wrote Poverty and Famines (1981). Other 'drain' critics: M. G. Ranade and William Digby ('Prosperous' British India).
