The new station constructed and established by India in March, 2012 for scientific research in Antarctica is called
- a.Priyadarshini
- b.Bharati
- c.Maitri
- d.Dakshin Gangotri
Answer: (B) Bharati
Bharati, commissioned on 18 March 2012 at the Larsemann Hills in East Antarctica, is India's third Antarctic research station. Dakshin Gangotri (1983-84) was the first; it got buried in ice and is now only a supply base. Maitri (1989), in the Schirmacher Oasis, is the second and still operates alongside Bharati. 'Priyadarshini' is the name of the freshwater lake near Maitri. India's Arctic station is Himadri (2008, Svalbard, Norway); the nodal agency is NCPOR, Goa.
