Its English translation, attributed to Michael Madhusudan Dutt, was published by Rev. James Long, who was fined and jailed for it. Harish Chandra Mukherjee championed the indigo cultivators through his paper Hindoo Patriot; Girish Chandra Ghosh was the father of Bengali public theatre; D. L.
