History of IndiaGupta & Post-Gupta Period
Where did Chandragupta II establish his second capital?
  1. a.Bidisha
  2. b.Malava
  3. c.Valabhi
  4. d.Ujjayini

Answer: (D) Ujjayini

Chandragupta II Vikramaditya (c. 375–415) conquered the Shaka (Western Kshatrapa) kingdom of Malwa, Gujarat and Saurashtra, took the title Shakari, and made Ujjayini (Ujjain) his second capital alongside Pataliputra; this gave the Guptas access to the western ports such as Bharuch. Fa-Hien visited India in his reign, and the Mehrauli iron pillar is attributed to him. Vidisha (Besnagar) is known for the Heliodorus pillar, Malava is the name of the region around Ujjain rather than a city, and Valabhi was the later capital of the Maitrakas of Saurashtra.
