Geography (incl. West Bengal)Population, Census & Tribes
In India, the decade known as the ‘period of population explosion’ is
  1. a.1921-1931
  2. b.1941-1951
  3. c.1951-1961
  4. d.1981-1991

Answer: (C) 1951-1961

The decades after 1951 are called India's period of population explosion, because the death rate fell sharply with better health care while the birth rate stayed high; 1951–1961 is the first of these decades. Growth before 1921 was very slow and irregular. 1921–1951 was a period of steady growth, and 1921 itself is called the year of the great demographic divide. From 1981–1991 onwards growth stayed high but began to slow down.
