Who was the editor of the 'Hindoo Patriot'?
  1. a.Surendranath Banerjee
  2. b.Motilal Ghosh
  3. c.Sisir Kumar Ghosh
  4. d.Harish Chandra Mukherjee

Answer: (D) Harish Chandra Mukherjee

The 'Hindoo Patriot' (started in 1853) was edited by Harish Chandra Mukherjee, who used it to defend the indigo ryots during the revolt of 1859-60 and to criticise the government's policy in 1857; Kristo Das Pal edited it after him. Surendranath Banerjee edited 'The Bengalee', and the brothers Sisir Kumar Ghosh and Motilal Ghosh ran the 'Amrita Bazar Patrika' (1868), which turned into an English paper overnight in 1878 to escape the Vernacular Press Act.
